The
Lone Peak Boys Team finished an amazing season, going undefeated in Region play
and winning their 8th Region Championship in 10 years. The Boys Team
finished with a 13-1 record overall, losing only to 2 time State Champion Juan
Diego this season. An incredible year for the boys in what was to be a
‘rebuilding year’.
Many
players contributed this year to the success and our JV players started a great
post season on May 2nd with a solid performance at the JV Regional
Tournament. The highlights of the singles competition was Dallin Carrier taking
1st at 1st singles and Jacob Black taking 2nd
at 3rd singles. The doubles teams of Michael Selander & Jacob
Newell, along with Kyle Schvaneveldt & Gib Kroff won doubles championships
as did Dallas Rodebaugh and Jameson Bitton. Taking 2nd place in
doubles was Connor Ady and Dylan Rodabaugh.
At
the Varsity Region Tournament, Lone
Peak held on for a slim
victory to take the overall region title, with all 7 Varsity players qualifying
for State. Brocton Andrus was on fire at 1st singles and left little
doubt as to who the Regions best player was this year as he took 1st
place. Derek Schetselaar and Sam Johnson both took 2nd place in
their singles positions and the doubles teams of Ben Bearss & Kyler
Baumgartner and Bryan Gricius & Aaron Story both took home a 3rd
place finish.
At State, all LP positions played extremely well against difficult
draws. The most success in the tournament was our two sophomore semifinalists,
Brocton @ 1st singles and Sam Johnson @ 3rd singles. Both
players ran into tough opponents in the semi’s but represented Lone Peak
well. The team played tough enough to tie for 5th place @ State with
Pleasant Grove.
